Gujarat education board or GSEB came into existence, when the state of Gujarat was formed on 1st may 1960. Formerly Gujarat education board was known as Education and Labor department. During the time of its establishment, it also dealt with social welfare, labor, prohibition, excise, and employment. In year 1976 education department became a separate entity. This separate education department undertook responsibility of secondary education, higher education, technical education, and pharmacy education in the state of Gujarat.
Its duties were to ensure continuous education and rate, primary education for children between 6 to 14 years, expansion of primary and secondary education in the state of Gujarat.
Gujarat Secondary and Higher secondary Education board was established in year 1972, following the Gujarat Secondary Education Act. 1972.
The foremost responsibilities of Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education(GSEB) board are preparation of syllabus and curriculum, Registration and Establishment of new schools in the state of Gujarat, monitoring and keeping a check on the performance of the schools, conducting of training and workshops for grooming of teachers and enhancing their skills, conducting exams and declaration of results, introduction of new and modern technologies such as computerized class rooms.
Chairman and Deputy Chairman are the head of Gujarat secondary education board and they are appointed by Government of Gujarat and other employees include 16 Ex- Officio members and 44 other employees recruited from academic organizations. There are some other committees governed by the board, they are Executive Committee, Examination Committee, Finance Committee, Education Committee, Magazine Advisory Committee.
Gujarat Secondary and Higher secondary Education board conducts annual exams of standard 10th and 12th in the month of March every year. This year exams are expected to commence from 5th of March.
The results are declared by Gujarat Secondary and Higher secondary Education board(GSEB) in the month of June every year.
There is a network of more than 2000 schools established by Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board and there are more than 11 lakh students studying in these schools .Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board is working hard to increase the network of schools in the state by establishing more and more schools and by encouraging more and more students to study. The Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board are trying to introduce next gen technologies in the schools of the state of Gujarat. Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board have set standards for other educational boards and it has emerged as one of the topmost educational board in the country.
Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board(GSEB) have recently introduced Intel Teach Program which helps teachers to enhance the standards of learning and keeping up the pace with 21st century.
This program aims at providing digital literacy, problem solving, critical thinking and collaboration. This package contains set of customizable offerings like basic ICT skills to training on tools to provide assistance to students in best possible way.
Gujarat board will continue its effort to spread literacy to every part of the state by opening more schools and enrolling more and more students.
