Goa Board

The Goa Board of Education supervises the entire educational process of Goa. The Board plays a vital role to cater to the education to the entire state. This reputed Educational Board was established under the Goa, Daman and Diu Secondary and Higher Secondary Board Act,1975 (Act 13 of 1975). This Educational Board was started to fulfill the educational demands of the local inhabitants. This Board aims to spread quality education to the entire state through its recognized schools and Institutions. It conducts exams from the Primary sections to the Higher secondary level. The Board pays special attention to amend the Secondary and Higher Secondary education. It has adopted the require steps to facilitate advance methods and technology as per the current educational demands.

The Board provides a standard education, and also conducts research to evaluate the syllabus that can meet all the required needs with respect to social and economic development. It provides adequate facilities to the educationally and socially deprived and backward communities so that they can compete with the others. This Board maintains a beneficial educational structure that is quite facilitative for the young generation. Additionally, it is involved in supporting the student's intellectual talent and academic skill, as well.


Major Functions of this Board :

 

  • Spreading education through several recognized schools. The Board monitors the administrative functions of the schools, and based on that, it approves and withdraws recognition.

  • The Board consult with the Government on matters of policy related to the Secondary exams and the Higher Secondary Exams

  • The Board maintains a comprehensive educational structure for Primary, Secondary, Higher Secondary and University Level.

  • The Board maintains a co-ordination between the policies of the state and the national policies

  • The Board serves to ensure uniformity of education.

  • The Board evaluates and maintains updated syllabus for both the Secondary and the Higher Secondary level.

  • The Board takes care of proper infrastructure for recognized schools.

  • Based on current research, the Board prescribes text books for all classes. The Board is involved in preparing text books, as well.

  • The Board manages the admission procedure for regular and private candidates

  • After conducting exams, the Board publishes the final results at the end of each academic year.

  • The Board aids in the national level scholarships.

    Examinations :


    The Goa Board of Education conducts Secondary Examination in the month of March and October. For the Higher Secondary level, the exams are generally scheduled in March , June and October. Regular and private candidates can sit for both the SSC examination and the Higher Secondary Examination. If any candidate's enrollment is rejected by the Board, due to any genuine reason, then the candidate can get 50% of the total enrollment fees along with the application.

 

Basic eligibility of the SSC exam for Private candidates is mentioned below :

 

  • If the candidate has completed his/ her studies along with practical exams of the subject which contains practical work, then he is eligible for the SSC exam as a private candidate.

  • The candidate should have resided in the state for more than 2 years, before the commencement of the SSC exam. For any genuine reason, the duration of residence can be excused by the Chairman.

  • The candidate can not enroll his/her name in any recognized Secondary School

  • The candidate should have completed 17 years before the academic session of the SSC exam.

  • Any Indian citizen, who has been a student of any secondary school overseas, and has also completed an equivalent course, is eligible for this examination.

  • Any failure, regular candidate can appear for the exam as a private candidate unless, he/ she has not taken admission in any secondary school.

  • The applicants need to have completed the practical papers from recognized schools, and the genuine certificate issued by the head of the institution/ school needs to be given along with application form for the private SSC exam.

  • The candidate needs to provide a written statement that he/ she has not been rusticated by any recognized Board or University.

  • A private candidate can have the enrollment certificate, and for that he/ she needs to submit the specified fees and documents.

  • A private candidate is not eligible for any scholarships and prizes.

  • A private candidate can get exemption from appearing in the school assessment based subjects.

 

Basic eligibility of the Private candidates for Higher Secondary Exam :

 

  • The candidate should have inhabited in the state for more than 2 years, before the commencement of the Higher Secondary exam. For any genuine reason, the duration of residence period can be condoned by the Chairman.

  • The candidate should not be enrolled his/her name in any recognized Higher Secondary School.

  • The candidate should have completed 19 years before 1st March of the academic year. Genuine document is required as a age proof.

  • Any Indian citizen, who has been a student of Higher secondary school overseas, and also has completed equivalent course, is eligible for Higher Secondary exam.

  • Any regular candidate, who can not complete his/ her exams, can appear for this H.S.S.C exam as a private candidate unless, he/ she has not taken admission in any recognized Higher Secondary school.

  • The applicants should have completed Secondary Examination or equivalent exam from any recognized Board.

  • The Period between the passing date of Secondary exam or any equivalent exam and the commencement of the higher Secondary exam, should be less than 3 years.

  • An applicant needs to provide a written statement that he/ she has not faced rustication set by any recognized Board or University.

  • Required documents and fees need to paid by the Candidates.

  • After the enrollment process, the candidate can have the enrollment certificate and later he/she can apply for the H.S.S.C exam.

  • Private candidate can not have subjects, which have practical exams.

  • A private candidate can get exemption from appearing in school assessment based subjects.

  • A Private candidate can not have any prizes or scholarships.
