Bihar is known as a place of wisdom, and the history of its educational superiority dates back to the time of the Nalanda University and the Vikramshila University. This Board caters a praise worthy educational system to maintain the heritage of its golden period. The board maintains a facilitative environment, and takes care of education right from the primary section. Followed by the Right To Education Act (RTE), the Board provides quality and free primary education to all students aged between 6-14 years. The board has successfully adopted several beneficial schemes including the Mukhyamantri Paribhraman Yojana, Sarv Sikhsha Abhiyan among others.
The Bihar School of Secondary Board serves the educational needs of the entire state, and also manages the educational process. At the end of each academic year, the Board conducts examinations based on the rules and regulation approved by the State Government. The Board provides updated and comprehensive syllabus to each class, and also supervises and monitors the entire administrative process.
The Annual Secondary School Examination is generally conducted in the month of February and March. Supplementary examination is also conducted in August-September.Additionally, The Bihar School of Secondary Board supervises the Departmental Examinations but these kind of exams are not conducted on a yearly basis. According to the terms and conditions approved by the State Government, a Certificate course in Physical Education, Diploma course in Physical Education and Teachers Training Examination are also conducted by this reputed Board.
The Bihar School of Secondary Board provides the facility to students to improve their results. If any student is unsatisfied with his/her secured division, then the student can apply for better result along with the bank draft of Rs.200/-. Any student can apply for scrutiny for any paper followed by instructions mentioned in the application form. For a single paper the student needs to pay of Rs.100/- and for all papers, the charges are Rs. 600/-.
The Bihar Intermediate Educational Council supervises and controls the 10+2 examination or the Intermediate examination through its affiliated schools. This council conducted its first examination in 1983, and prior to this time, the examinations were conducted by the different universities of the state. This Council offers Arts, Science and Commerce stream.

The Board supports Government and Non Government Institutions, and set up new institutions to spread a smooth educational system.
The examination Structure of this Board :
Bihar Board of Education conducts its Secondary School exam two times in a year. One is the Annual Examination and other is the Supplementary Examination. The Examination fees are clearly mentioned in the official website.
Annual Examination : This exam happens in February , March and a good number of students appear for this exam.
Supplementary Examination : This Exam is conducted in July and August. Students can appear for this exam by choosing the category A or C. Here 'A' means all subjects and 'C' means the compartmental subject. Any student can clear the subjects in which he/ she fails to get pass marks.
